Dietary Modifications for Irish Eats

We strive to accommodate the needs of all families. Below please find recommended substitutions for our Rad Families with dietary restrictions. 

 

Gluten-Free

Irish Cottage Pie>> Use gluten-free flour.

Sticky Toffee Pudding>> Use 1 to 1 gluten-free baking flour, such as Bob’s Red Mill.

 

Dairy Allergy

Lucky Leek and Potato Soup>>

  • Use dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.
  • Omit cream and add one additional potato, or use dairy-free milk, such as almond, cashew, soy, or pea protein.

Irish Cottage Pie>> 

  • Use dairy-free milk, such as almond, cashew, soy, or pea protein.
  • Use dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.

Sticky Toffee Pudding>> 

For Date Cake:

  • Use 1 stick (8 oz.) dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.

For Toffee Sauce:

  • Use coconut cream or full fat coconut milk.
  • Use dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.

 

Egg Allergy

Sticky Toffee Pudding>> 

  • Use 2 flax eggs:
      1. Combine 2 Tbsp finely ground flaxseed meal with 5 Tbsp water.
      2. Let rest 5 minutes to thicken.

  

Vegan

Lucky Leek and Potato Soup>>

  • Omit cream and add one additional potato, or use dairy-free milk, such as almond, cashew, soy, or pea protein.

Irish Cottage Pie>> 

  • In place of ground beef:
    • Use one (8 oz.) package of mushrooms. Dice in small pieces. Add to skillet with onion and carrot in Step 7.
    • Use 1 cup cooked brown or green lentils. (Note: ½ cup uncooked lentils = 1 cup cooked lentils.) Add lentils in Step 8 to replace ground beef. Cook 3-5 minutes, instead of 7-9 min.
  • Use vegan Worcestershire, such as Annie’s.
  • Substitute vegetable broth for beef broth.
  • Use dairy-free milk, such as almond, soy, cashew, or pea protein.
  • Use dairy-free butter, such as Earth Balance.
